I sprayed the crankcases 18 years or so ago in gloss 2 pack and
over the years have gone off the colour as it made the engine look
too dark, so I have stripped the bike down again and putting back
similar to the original silver colour.
Painted
crankcases black about 18 years ago and had chrome engine casings,
but after leaving outside for a while and not starting the engine
the chrome casings stayed wet with condensation and the chrome
blistered off. |
Striping
down engine ready for blasting and painting. |
|
Crankcases
have been lightly sandblasted and jet washed to clear out any grit
that got past the ally plate. Masked up and coated with 2 pack
etch primer. |
|
Sprayed
with foliatec 2 part brake caliper paint, which is resistant to most
chemicals and brake fluid. Usually touch dry in 2 hours. Most of the caliper paints now-a-days are single part, and
nowhere near as good. |
The
breather pipe on the crankcase near the oil pump has been tapped
and a stainless insert screwed in with a raised centre to protrude
in to the recess in the oil pump housing as when I use to jet wash
the bike water would enter the breather pipe if on the side stand
as it collected on the top of the crankcase. The insert will screw
in so only 5 – 8 mm is showing. |
Started
putting the engine back together. Just waiting on the crankshaft
to be lightened and dynamically balanced. |
A
big gap where the crank should go, will upload some pictures when
I get the crank back, hopefully a few pounds lighter and a bit
less vibrations. |

Base
of the transfer ports have been polished helps prevent and build
up of gunge. |
