The standard crankshaft prior to being sent to Chris Applebee to be
lightened and balanced. Bought this crank new many years ago and
it caused a lot of vibrations at low rev, about 1500 rpm the
speedo and rev counter would shake all over the place an would be
nearly unreadable. |
The crankshaft came back after a few weeks and looks like they have
done a good job. Quite surprised how many lightening holes there
have been drilled in the webs. Hopefully won't be too long before
I can start the bike up and see if this has improved the problems. |
I have now had the engine running and the crank work has made a huge difference, hardly any vibration anymore. I have a small clip of the bike running here, has my old Allspeeds on and the audio is not too good, will post another one with the Higgspeed exhausts on as they sound very nice.

I wouldn't suggest this is right for everyone, but I am very pleased with the final result, it is a shame I didn't have a video of the clocks when revving the engine before I had the work done.
I also balanced the pistons as the left and right pistons varied by 2 grams, used a dremel to sand inside the piston and drilled a couple of shallow holes, got all of them within 0.2 grams, probably not necessary to get that accurate but rather do than an know it is right. |
