Machining the 38 mm bar down to 32mm. The minimum size to get a 27mm A/F hexagon is about 31.2mm but allowed a bit extra.

Machined a a step of 25mm dia and 6mm long, this will be where the slots for the split pin or 'R' clip will be. |

Taken out the lathe chuck and finished tapping by hand and also have machined down the surplus at the to hold in index chuck. |
Surplus on bottom end is about 25 mm diameter. |
Using a 2mm slitting saw to machine the slots in the nut, the finished size of the slot is about 3.5mm |
Had to machine the slots in about 5 cuts as the milling head is not too rigid and the slitting saw a only a buget one. |

Machining the flats to 27mm using a solid carbide cutter at about 600 rpm. |
